Replace the Audio Jack in a Fifth-Generation iPod Video:

To replace the audio jack in a fifth-generation iPod Video:

1. Open the iPod according to the instructions provided by iDoctor staff:

2. A ribbon cable connects the battery to the logic board. Unplug it (see Step 1). Gently lift the brown clip. The cable should easily come loose.

3. Lift hard drive out of the iPod (see Step 2).

4. Locate the audio jack (attached to the logic board by ribbon cable). Gently lift the brown clip to release the cable, and then disconnect it (see Step 3).

5. Locate the battery fixed to the back panel of the iPod, remove it (see Step 4). A mild adhesive holds it in place.

6. There are four screws holding the audio jack in place. Remove all four screws with your Phillips-head screwdriver.

7. Find and remove the little piece of black tape that holds down the corner of the ribbon cable (see Step 5).

8. Insert the new audio jack into the iPod (see Step 6).

9. Replace all four screws.

10. Reapply the black tape removed in (7).

11. Place the battery back into the iPod.

12. Reconnect the audio jack cable. Make sure the brown clip is clipped back down, and the cable is held securely.

13. Place the hard drive back into the iPod.

14. Reconnect the battery ribbon cable. Again, make sure the brown clip is clipped back down, and the cable is held securely.

15. Put the iPod back together.
